General Dentistry in Charlotte – Dental Implants, Crowns, and More
There are plenty of dental health issues out there that Dr. Robert A. Lowe can address. Whether the dental problem involves the gums, the teeth, or other structures of the mouth, there is a treatment for it, or perhaps a combination of treatments for it. At our practice in Charlotte, we offer dental implants, dental crowns, soft tissue therapies, and other general dentistry options in order to meet the diverse needs of all of our patients.
A missing tooth can have a major impact on the overall appearance of your smile. It can also make it difficult to eat certain foods and can lead to speech impediments. Your remaining teeth are affected by the tooth gap as well. Bone loss in the jaw can occur in the area of the tooth gap, and teeth could shift out of alignment over time. These problems are compounded if you are missing multiple teeth.
To deal with missing teeth, dental bridges and dentures have been traditionally used, but it’s important to consider getting dental implants at our Charlotte practice. Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are surgically anchored into your jawbone and gums. By securing the dental implants into actual tissues and structures of your mouth, you will eliminate the possibility of bone loss in the jaw, and any dental restoration supported by a dental implant will remain more securely in place.
Since not everyone is a good candidate for implant dentistry, it’s important that you speak with Dr. Lowe at our Charlotte office about dental implants and if they are the right option for you.
When a tooth is just slightly chipped or cracked, the problem is primarily an aesthetic one that can be addressed through cosmetic dentistry treatments such as porcelain veneers and dental bonding. Sometimes, however, this is not the case. Whether it occurs as a result of advanced tooth decay or an injury sustained during an accident, major damage to a tooth can be quite serious. Not only does it look bad, but it can also be quite painful or uncomfortable to live with.
From such instances of chipped teeth or cracked teeth, we often use dental crowns at our Charlotte practice. Dental crowns are caps that fit directly over a tooth that has been severely damaged. The dental crown will protect the tooth from any further damage and will also help reduce any discomfort or sensitivity associated with the damaged tooth. The dental crowns can be made from a tooth colored material, to ensure it blends in seamlessly with your surrounding teeth.
Tooth Colored Dental Fillings
Even if you brush twice a day and floss regularly like you’ve been told, you may still develop cavities. Thankfully these can be dealt with using dental fillings. Now in the past, metal amalgam fillings were the standard way of addressing cavities. These days, we can use special dental resins and composite materials to create tooth colored dental fillings.
There are plenty of advantages when it comes to tooth colored dental fillings. For one, they are not as visible as metal fillings. In addition, tooth colored fillings will not be affected by shifts and extremes in temperature as metal fillings can. On top of all this, preparing a tooth for a tooth colored filling requires less drilling and removal of healthy tooth matter than preparing a tooth for metal fillings.
Gum Disease Treatments
While taking good care of your teeth is essential for great dental health, it’s equally important that you take good care of your gums. This is especially true when it comes to gum disease. If gingivitis progresses to periodontitis, it could mean major problems for your teeth and even your jaw. Bleeding gums, swollen gums, and gum recession are common, and if left untreated, tooth loss, gradual tooth misalignment, and bone loss are possible as well. Dr. Lowe is able to help treat gums that have developed gingivitis and periodontitis using various soft tissue therapies.
General Dental Care Needs
While we offer lots of options for cosmetic dentistry enhancements and oral rehabilitation, some of the most important services we provide our patients are the ones that address their regular dental care needs.
